Ramesh, who has been buying lottery tickets regularly for over a decade, purchased the winning ticket — TO 289456 — from a small lottery shop near his home. The announcement of the winning numbers came on Sunday evening, leaving Ramesh in complete disbelief.
"I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw my ticket number on the news channel. I asked my wife to check again and again. This is a miracle," said an emotional Ramesh, who earns around ₹700 per day driving his auto-rickshaw.
Ramesh lives with his wife Geetha, a homemaker, and two children, aged 12 and 8. He said the prize money will be used to build a new house, secure his children’s education, and clear old debts.
"For years, we have lived in a small rented house. My dream was always to have my own home, and today that dream will finally come true," Ramesh said with tears of joy.
The lottery agency, Madhavan Lotteries, which sold the lucky ticket, is also in the limelight. As per the state lottery rules, the agent will receive a commission of ₹24 lakh for selling the winning ticket, adding to the celebration.
The Kerala State Lottery, known for its transparency and popularity, has been a beacon of hope for thousands across the state. Introduced in 1967, it is the first-ever government-run lottery in India and has since produced many millionaires from modest backgrounds.
Despite his massive win, Ramesh says he will continue driving his auto-rickshaw until he finalizes long-term plans for his family. Local residents and well-wishers have been visiting his home to congratulate him, and the news has already gone viral on social media.
